Obituary of John Altier

John R. "Jackie" Altier, 81, of Archbald, died Thursday evening at Geisinger Community Medical Center. His wife, of 33 years, is the former Diane Pulman. The couple resided in Archbald together.

Born in Archbald, he was the son of the late Frank and Mary Jaimmy Altier. Jackie was a graduate of Archbald High School and a prolific businessman in the area. He was the owner and operator of the New World Lounge, The Gay 90's, Avee's Restaurant, Sierra Estates, Creator of the Hills of Archbald, where he built numerous homes. He was on the advisory board for Pioneer Bank, past president of the Archbald Council and a member of Elkview Country Club.

Jackie was a kind and wonderful husband, father grandfather, uncle, and friend who loved cars. If it had an engine, he owned it. He enjoyed his Thursday night golf league and the camaraderie of his dinners afterward, his Saturday morning breakfast with the guys. He volunteered much of his time for the town of Archbald, mentored and was beloved by many. He especially loved his family, his sisters and brothers, children, nieces and nephews. Also surviving are two daughters; Lori Altier, Scranton and Lisa Brzenski and husband Chet, Peckville; grandchildren: Bret, Brandon, and Brianna; two sisters, Theresa Kissolovege, Archbald and Mary Liparulo, Forest City; numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by brothers Patrick Altier and wife Ceil, Alex Altier and wife Anna, Frank Altier and wife Mary, Tony, Thomas Altier and wife Pat, Joseph Altier and wife Tilly; Sisters, Catherine Ropoch and husband John, Adilla and Lucy Altier, Margaret Walker and husband Al, Vera Miskell and husband Jack, brothers in law Joe Liparulo and Raymond Kissolovege.

The funeral will be on Monday at 3pm with mass of Christian burial at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Archbald. Entombment will be private at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be Monday from 1pm to the time of mass, at the church. Arrangements are under that care and direction of the Louis M. Margotta Funeral Home.
