Obituary of Primo A. Sebastianelli

Primo A. Sebastianelli of Peckville passed away peacefully Monday evening at Geisinger CMC Hospital, surrounded by family. He was days shy of his 94th birthday. His wife of 64 years is the former Mary J. Canuso. Born in Jessup, he was the son of the late Carlo Sebastianelli and the late Antoinette Antonelli Sebastianelli. He attended Jessup High School and enlisted in the US Navy in October of 1945. On July 1, 1946 he participated in Operation Crossroads, the testing and fire extinguishing of the Nuclear Atomic Bomb Test conducted at Bikini Atoll in the Pacific Marshall Islands. The tests were conducted to explore the effects of nuclear weapons on ships. He and his experienced fire fighting sailors boarded the flaming and radioactive ships to extinguish flames and salvage these vessels. He was a life long member of the National Association of Atomic Veterans and the National Association of Radiation Survivors. After his Navy Service he worked in local construction, was employed as a welder, and as a Facility Maintenance Technician at Suckle Electronics in Scranton, PA. He enjoyed hunting and fishing especially his fishing trips to Canada with his friends and family. He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church Peckville and the Shopa-Davey Post 6082 in Peckville. Also surviving are a daughter, Anna Sebastianelli Dalesio and husband Donald, Mullica Hill, NJ, brothers, Secondo Sebastianelli, Florida, Dr. Mario J Sebastianelli, Archbald, Carl Sebastianelli and wife Barbara, Clark Summit, Benedict Sebastianelli and wife Shirley, Jessup, Sylvester Sebastianelli, Jessup and a sister, Grace Bearadi, Florida as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by infant brother, Secondo and brother in law, Al Berardi. The funeral will be held Saturday from the James M. Margotta Funeral Home, 1019 Main St. Peckville with mass at 1 PM at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Peckville. Interment, Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst. Friends may call Friday from 6 to 8 PM.
