Obituary of William D. Stermel
William D. Stermel, 25, of Jessup died Monday April 4th at Geisinger CMC. His wife is the former Amanda DiBlasi Stermel, Jessup. The couple was married for 3 years.
Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of John “Jack” Stermel Jr. and wife Susan and Mary Cullen and companion Guy, both of Philadelphia.
He graduated from Roman Catholic High School, Philadelphia and attended Kutztown University, where he played on the rugby team.
William served his country in the United States Army, PA National Guard and was an active member. During his military service, he served one deployment overseas along with his wife.
He was employed as a Government Contractor with CACI.
Also surviving is a daughter, Anna Shae Stermel, at home; his siblings, Brigid, Elizabeth, John III and Emily Stermel, all of Philadelphia; maternal grandfather, William “Cuz” Cullen, Paternal grandmother Catherine “Mommom” Stermel; step brother and sister, Phillip and Amelia Cox.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Janet “Bootsie” Cullen and paternal grandfather John “Poppop” Stermel Sr.
The funeral will be on Wednesday at 11 am with a service at James M. Margotta Funeral Home, 1019 Main St., Peckville, PA, celebrated by Msgr. Thomas M. Muldowney. Interment will follow at Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Carbondale. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 9 to 11 am at the funeral home.
