Obituary of Helen P. Menichello

Helen P. Menichello, 98, of Moosic Lakes, died Saturday afternoon peacefully at home, surrounded by her family. Her husband of 56 years was the late Albert Menichello. Born in Old Forge, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Antoinette Florimonte Sabetta. Helen was a longtime member of the Altar and Rosary Society of St. Mary’s parish, and later, a member of the Social Concerns Committee at St. Eulalia’s Church, her parish. Helen and her sister Jean were inseparable. Together, they volunteered at St. Mary’s Villa in Elmhurst for several years. They also bowled and swam across Moosic Lake from June through October. Helen loved to travel, was a card shark and an exceptional cook and baker, known for her pies. Demonstrating a fierce, competitive spirit, she played to win at all games, especially her favorites - Pinochle and Scrabble. Helen was a devoted Penn State and Green Bay Packers fan. Above all, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. Surviving are her children: Andrea McFarland and husband Joseph, Old Forge;, Marianne Bell and husband Roger, Maplewood; Mark Menichello and wife Colette, NC; Gina Walters and husband George, FL; Judy Deakin and husband Tracey, CA;, John Menichello, Moosic Lakes; Carole Kovalchik and husband Mike, Moosic Lakes. Her twenty-four grandchildren: Mary Claire, Paul Jr., Lisa, Matthew, Sean, Joseph, Michele, Jonathan, Christopher, Mary Ellen, Maria, Stephen, Eric, Andrea, Jill, David, Shane, Amanda, Maria, Jessica, Eric, Connor, Michael, and Cory. Her 33 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. Her daughter in law, Claire Menichello, Jessup; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by a son, Paul Menichello; three brothers, Patrick, Ralph, and Nicholas Sabetta; and two sisters, Jean Krisanda and Gloria Genaro. The family would like to send a special thank you to Dr. Sean McCall and Traditional Hospice, nurses and staff for their kind and compassionate care. The Funeral will be on Thursday, April 7, with mass of Christian burial at 11am at St. Eulalia’s Church, Roaring Brook Township. Interment will follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow. Calling hours will be from 10am to the time of service at the church. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Louis M. Margotta Funeral Home.
