Obituary of Michael F. Lawler

Michael F. Lawler, 80, died peacefully on January 17th, 2022 at Glenmaura Senior Living in Moosic. Born and raised in Jessup, Michael was the son of the late Harold and Mary McAndrew Lawler. He was educated at St. Patrick's School in Olyphant and attended the University of Scranton. He was employed by the PA Turnpike Commission as an engineer - a position he held for over 40 years. He served as liaison between the PA Turnpike and the newly established Pocono International Raceway, where he was employed as Director of Security in the early years of Indy Car racing. Michael was an avid auto racing fan and counted A. J. Foyt and Roger Penske as his friends. He was a lifelong member of the Pennsylvania Democratic party and a member of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick. He is survived by his niece Mauri and wife Christine Tierney, their daughter, Kate Tierney, his nephew Edward (Ted) Lawler and wife Megan and their sons, Jack and Ben, his cousin, Jimmy McAndrew and wife Peggy, along with many cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by a brother, James H. Lawler and nephew James H Lawler Jr. He is mourned by family and friends who will remember him fondly as a man of humor, good taste and as a gifted raconteur. The family wishes to convey their gratitude to the staff at Glenmaura Senior Living and Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their exemplary care and support. The funeral will take place on Saturday, January 29th with mass at 12:30pm at Our Lady of the Snows Church in Clarks Summit. Interment will be held at a later date. Friends may call one hour prior to the time of the mass, 11:30am, at the church, masks are highly recommended. Arrangements are under the care of Louis M. Margotta funeral Home.
