Obituary of Marita Gordon

Marita Barrett Gordon, 80 of Jessup, most recently, a guest at Mid Valley Health Care Center in Peckville passed away peacefully on Tuesday, surrounded by family. She was the widow of John D. Gordon, who passed away in 1994. The couple was married in September of 1969 and celebrated 25 years of marriage. Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Mary Toolan Barrett. She was a graduate of St. Patrick's High School (Class of 58) and worked at Acme Markets while she earned a degree in Business from Lackawanna College. She was employed at Sprague-Henwood as an administrative assistant, and also worked at RCA. After taking time off to raise a family she then re-entered the workforce at Sweeney Plumbing and Heating and Ann Marie Barrett's Day Care. She also volunteered her time anywhere she was needed. A lifelong Jessup resident, she was a member of the former St. James Church (now known as Queen of Angels Parish) and Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Peckville. She was very active in the Mid Valley Women's Club and the Catholic Women's Club, serving as an officer, while also working on many committees. She was a volunteer/ member of the Mid Valley Senior Center, taught catechism classes and was a longtime office volunteer for the American Cancer Society where she also co-chaired the Relay for Life. The family would to to extend a special Thank You to the staff at Mid Valley Healthcare Center and her doctors, Dr. Kim, Dr. Dr. Dodge and Dr. Gilhooley. Surviving are two daughters, Erin Gordon Moskel, Peckville; Megan Minich and husband Brian, Jessup, a son, Kevin Gordon, Jessup, one brother, Edward Barrett, Jessup; two sisters, Roselyn Gilhooley and husband Michael, Jessup and Catherine Green, Olyphant; grandchildren, John Peter and Emma Rose Moskel, a son in law, Aaron and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by an infant twin sister, Ann and a brother William. The funeral will be held Saturday from the Louis M. Margotta Funeral Home, 511 Church St. Jessup with mass at 10 AM at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Peckville. Interment, St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery, Archbald. Friends may call Friday evening from 5 to 8 PM at the funeral home. Masks are suggested. For online condolences go to the funeral home website.
