Obituary of Vito A. Ciaglia

Vito A. Ciaglia, 91, of Dunmore passed away Wednesday peacefully, surrounded by his family at Abington Manor after a short illness. He and his wife, the former Effie Scagliotti had celebrated 70 years of marriage on March 31st. Born in Dunmore, he was the son of the late Leonardo and Carmella Mecca Ciaglia. He was a graduate of Dunmore High School Class of 1948. He was a US Army veteran during the Korean Conflict, having served in Germany as the Personnel Sergeant of the 109th Regiment of the 28th Infantry Divison. There he was a member of their championship basketball team. After the war, he graduated from the University of Scranton with a degree in accounting. He was an evening student for seven years while supporting his family. He retired from Truck Parts Inc., Scranton, PA, after 55 loyal years as their accountant. He resided most of his life in Dunmore and was a member of SS Anthony and Rocco Parish. As a born leader, he was the past president and secretary of the St. Anthony's Holy Name Society and the Dunmore Aggie's Bowling League. Also, he was the secretary- treasurer of the Dunmore Aggie's Social Club. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 13, Dunmore and the Jessup VFW, Post 5544. An avid sports enthusiast, he was a founding member of the St. Anthony's Holy Name senior softball team. He coached Dunmore Biddy Basketball in his youth. He was a huge fan of the New York Giants and the Philadelphia Phillies. Surviving are a daughter, Patricia Cecci and husband Joseph, Dunmore. Three sons, Vito and wife Heidi, Dupont, Richard and wife Rosemary, Dunmore, and Gregory and wife Rea, Roaring Brook Twp. Brother-in-law Eugene Scagliotti and wife Donna, Scott Twp. 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was proceeded into death by a granddaughter Britani Rose Ciaglia, two sisters Ann Renaldi and Carmella Cicilioni, brothers, Donato and Leonard Ciaglia. Vito’s family would like to thank the staff at Abington Manor for their compassionate care. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wed. Dec. 29 at 11am in SS Anthony and Rocco Parish, 303 Smith Street, Dunmore. Entombment, St Mary's Cemetery, Montdale. Friends and family may call Tues. Dec 28 from 4 until 7pm at the Louis M.
