Obituary of Peter C. Povanda

Peter C. Povanda, Esq., 70 of Scranton, formerly of Jessup, passed away Monday peacefully at home, after a lengthy illness. His wife is the former Kathi Shaw. Born in Peckville he was the son of the late John and Pauline Vervan Povanda. He was a graduate of Jessup High School, and Penn State University followed by Western New England School of Law. His employment history started as a practicing attorney for over 30 years and then was an Assistant District Attorney, and became Master on Bench of Family Court until his retirement. He was raised in Jessup then moved to Peckville and lived Philadelphia and Clarks Summit then in Scranton the past 4 years. He was a member of St. Michael's Church in Jessup, now known as Queen of Angels Parish. He was very active in the church picnics in years past. and was a Third Degree Knight of Columbus, Clarks Summit Council 6611. He was a kind and loving husband, father, brother and uncle who always made time for everyone. Peter loved trips to Cape Cod. He was an avid reader especially the works of Stephen King. The family would like to express a special thank you to Mike and the nurses of Traditional Home Health Care, especially Camille and the Interventional Radiology Department at Geisinger CMC. Also surviving are a son, Matthew , Minneapolis, MN, two brothers, John and wife Emma, Hermitage, PA and Dr. Paul and wife Roseann, Horseheads, NY, two sisters, Andrea Warholic and husband Robbie, Johnson City, and Ann Brojack and husband George, Greenfield Township, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister Paula. The funeral will be held Friday December 3rd at St. Michaels Church, Jessup, with mass at 10:30. Friends may call from 9 AM until time of service at the Church. Interment, Forest Hills Cemetery, Dunmore. Memorial contributions may be made to Griffin Pond Animal Shelter.
