Obituary of Richard J. Nykaza

Richard J. Nykaza, 70 of Scott Township, passed away peacefully on Thursday at home. His wife was the former Judy Linde Nykaza. The couple celebrated 47 years of marriage in June. Born in Scranton, he was the son of Jacob and Louise Turrissini Nykaza of Scott Township. He was a graduate of Scott High School and after graduation he was in the US Army for 2 years during the Vietnam War. He was employed as an auto mechanic for Zipay Pontiac Buick for many years, and then went on to own and operate his own business, Nykaza’s Auto Service for 34 years. He was a former member of Corpus Christi Church, now known as St. John Vianney. He loved hunting, fishing and golf throughout his lifetime and he enjoyed his children and grandchildren most of all. Also surviving are two daughters, Nadena Cruise and husband Jeffery, Olyphant and Karissa Nykaza and fiance Jason Dolan, Scranton, a son, Jacob Nykaza and wife Lisa, New Freedom, PA, grandchildren, Jc and Max Cruise, and Lily Nykaza, and nieces and nephews, cousins. He was preceded in death by a sister, Patty Kashuba and a brother, Mark Nykaza. The funeral will be held Friday with a private blessing service. Friends may call Thursday from 5 to 7 PM at the Louis M. Margotta Funeral Home, 511 Church St. Jessup. The Nykaza family request that masks are required with social distancing.
