Obituary of John J. Dubas

John J. Dubas, 79, of Jessup died Thursday evening at Moses-Taylor Hospital, after an illness. Born in Jessup, he was the son of the late, John A. and Mary Toth Dubas. He was a graduate of Jessup High School and Johnson Trade School. He was a professional musician and played with "The Chartbusters," and wrote and performed their Billboard hit called "She's The One." John was also an avid pilot who traveled around the country in his plane. He was a member of St. Adalbert's Polish National Church in Dickson City. He retired from the maintenance staff at Lackawanna Health Care Center. During his musical career, he played with every big name in the music business, including Chuck Berry, Roy Orbison, the Beach Boys, the Animals and B.J. Thomas. He also performed on American Bandstand. He was a loving and caring son, brother and uncle. John was also known locally as Johnny Guitar, playing music throughout the area, including the Erie Hotel. John loved his music and his family. He was the heart of the family and no family event will ever be the same without him. He loved to entertain his family by playing guitar and banjo with his nephew, Kris. John brought so much fun and enjoyment to all and will be dearly missed. He loved his family and his music. He is survived by a daughter, Shawn Marie Christian, Missouri; a sister, Barbara Sheridan, Peckville; a brother, Edward Dubas and wife Liz, Forest City; one niece, Kim Sheridan-Megela and husband, Ed; nephews, Kris Sheridan and fiancé, Brandy, Edward and wife, Lisa, and Eugene Dubas. He was also survived by great nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. The family would like to express their sincere thanks and gratitude to the doctors and the entire staff at the Moses Taylor Hospital, especially the ICU Unit, who cared for John during his illness. The funeral will be held Wednesday from the James M. Margotta Funeral Home, 1019 Main St. Peckville, with mass at 11 AM at St. Adalbert's Polish National Church in Dickson City. Interment, parish cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home. For online condolences go to funeral home website.
