Obituary of Thomas E. Merrigan

Thomas E. Merrigan, 73 of Scranton, formerly of Jessup, passed away Wednesday morning at home after a brief illness. His wife of 34 years is the former Margot Butler. Born in Peckville, he was the son of the late John and Helen Kohansky Merrigan. He was a graduate of Jessup Schools and was a US Army veteran during the Vietnam War. He was employed at Tobyhanna Army Depot until his retirement. He was a member of St. Paul's Church in Scranton. He and his wife resided in Scranton since 1986. He was a member of the Michael Steiner Jessup American Legion, Post 411. He was a kind and caring husband and father, who adored his son T.J. and enjoyed being in his garden. He is survived by a son T.J. Merrigan, at home and a brother in law, Jerry Butler and wife Susan, Moosic Lake, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother John Merrigan and a sister in law, Mary Ellen Merrigan. The funeral will be held Tuesday with mass at 10 AM at St. Paul's Church, 1510 Penn Avenue, Scranton. Friends may call Tuesday from 9 am to time of service, at the church. Interment will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Louis M. Margotta Funeral.
