Obituary of Paul J. Marchwat

Paul J. Marchwat, 61, Plymouth, Mass., formerly of Scranton, PA., passed away September 17, 2021. Born November 18, 1959, he was the son of the late Walter and Helen Marchwat. Paul served as administrator of Wingate at Silver Lake in Kingston, MA, a skilled nursing facility the past 4 years. He had served as administrator and executive director for other facilities throughout New England for over 30 years. Paul graduated from Scranton Technical High School in 1977 and earned an Associate degree from Keystone Jr. College. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Healthcare Administration from Quinnipiac University in Hamden, CT., and a Master of Science degree from Husson University in Bangor, Maine. He was a licensed Nursing home administrator in both Maine and Massachusetts, a Certified Healthcare Access Manager and a member of the National Association of Healthcare Access Management. He was also a former president of the Brain Injury Association of Maine. Paul was talented beyond his own perception of himself. His genuine gift of caring for his residents his entire career was uncanny and did not go unrecognized by their families, his staff and co-workers, especially during the onslaught of Covid over the past year and a half of this pandemic. HIs lifelong love of baseball as a talented catcher from little league through college and the Scranton Red Sox did not go unnoticed by any of his family, coaches and teammates. Paul earned many awards throughout the years for his achievements and accomplishments, athletically, academically and professionally. He was a proud and humble man who was most thankful for the love and support of his family and friends. Words cannot express how he will be missed by everyone he loved and affected in his life. In his own closing words, which he used often, “Take two and hit to right.” Surviving are his sisters Carole Cader and husband Jim of Clarks Summit, Joan Panzera and husband Paul of Jessup, and brother Walter Marchwat, Jr., Scranton, along with several cousins. He is also survived by his loving friend, LuAnn Smith, Massachusetts. The funeral will be held Friday with mass at 11AM at St. Gregory’s Church in Clarks Summit. Interment, St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Scranton. Friends may call from 10 AM until time of service, at the church. Donations may be made in Paul’s honor to the donor’s favorite charity.
