Obituary of Robert J. Cherry

Robert J. Cherry, 63, of Jessup, died unexpectedly Friday, Aug. 6, at home. Born in Peckville, he was the son of the late Lillian Caparelli Cherry and the late Francis Cherry. He was a graduate of Jessup High School and Johnson School of Technology. He was a social member of the Jessup VFW and a former member of St. Mary’s Assumption Church, Jessup, now known as Queen of Angels Parish. Prior to retirement, he was a correctional officer at the Federal Bureau of Prisons, Waymart, Pa., where he was granted many achievement awards. Bobby was a Harley-Davidson enthusiast and loved riding his Harley and meeting new friends. Everyone who knew Bobby knew he had a laugh that was infectious and could light up the room. He also enjoyed gardening and loved animals. Surviving are a daughter, the light of his life, Lauren Cherry, Rockville, Maryland; cousin, Deb Butash and husband, Frank Butash, Moscow; Steve Blascak and Sue Blascak, Moscow; cousin, Frank Butash and wife, Kayla Butash, Dunmore; and Steve Blascak, Reno, Nevada. He was preceded in death by his sister, Janie Cherry-Lamberton. The funeral will be Friday, Aug. 13, from the Louis M. Margotta Funeral Home Inc., 511 Church St., Jessup, Pa. Interment, St. John’s Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
