Obituary of Marilyn Serafini

Marilyn Serafini, 85 of Peckville passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 18th at home surrounded by her family. She was the widow of the late Joseph Ralph Serafini who passed away on August 29, 2001. The couple were married for 40 years. Born in the pine brook section of Scranton, she was the daughter of the late William and Helen (O’Brien) Carroll. Marilyn attended Scranton Technical High School and graduated in the class of 1954. She began her working career at Eureka on a National Cash Register in the Accounting division. She then went to work at IBM as a data entry specialist for the Social Security Office in Wilkes-Barre. She left IBM to work for Acme Fast Freight and went on to also hold similar positions at Casual Sportswear and Emory World Wide in Dunmore. Because of her love of fashion, she finished up her working career in retail at Coldwater Creek at Montage. Marilyn loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She was an avid sports fan and especially loved watching women’s basketball. Whether it was heading into NYC to shop and watch her favorite WNBA team, the NY Liberty, the bus trips to Atlantic City to have a little fun, or the many nights out on the town dancing with her friends, Marilyn was always up for an adventure. She was a member of the Sons and Daughters of Italy, served as a Eucharistic minster and life long member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church of Peckville. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend and will be deeply missed by all. The family would like to thank her team of Physicians and caregivers who provided her with unwavering compassion and care throughout her journey. Marilyn is survived by her son, Gregory and his wife Tammy Serafini of Archbald and her daughter Sue Serafini of Austin, Tx; her granddaughter Ciara Speicher of Archbald: grandsons Gino Serafini of Portsmouth, NH, RJ Speicher and his finacee Andi Meginess of Carbondale, Dominic Serafini of Bethlehem, Evan Serafini of Archbald, her great grandchildren, Robbie and Aubree Speicher and her sister Geraldine and her husband Joe Popish of Sturges and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Serafini, her son Kurt Serafini and her sister, Joan and her husband Dave Lowry, A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, May 24th at 11:00 am at the Scared Heart of Jesus Parish, Peckville. Interment will follow at St. Francis D. Assisi Cemetery, Eynon. A walk through viewing will be held from 9:30-10:45 am in the foyer of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Peckville.
