Obituary of John A. Wargo
John Wargo, 92, of Peckville, passed away after a brief illness on April 30th, 2021. His wife was the former Florence Cholish Wargo, who passed away in 2019. The couple was married for 67 years.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Joseph A. Wargo and Mary Marchak Wargo. He was a graduate of Technical High School, who then enlisted in the US Air Force. After basic training, he transferred to the US Army Camp Holibird in Baltimore, MD. Upon retirement from theArmy, he accepted a position with the Central Intelligence Agency in Washington, DC, where he worked until leaving to enroll under the GI bill at the University of Scranton.
Upon graduation, he went to work at International Textbook Company for 17 years.In 1974, he co-founded Warrin Graphics, designing textbooks. In 1980, he joined Specialty Records Company in Olyphant as Director of Printing and Label Operations, then as Director of Security until his retirement.
John was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be missed. He was an avid golfer and bowler who enjoyed frequent trips to the local casinos and Atlantic City.
He is survived by his son Philip, a daughter Karen Dutko, and a granddaughter Amber Dutko, all of Peckville; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his loving son David in 1999; sisters, Madeline Wargo and Margaret Wargo Graziano, and a brother Joseph R. Wargo.
The funeral will be on Thursday at 10 am at Sacred Heart Parish, Peckville. Interment will follow at Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton. A walkthrough viewing will be held on Wednesday from 5 to 7 pm at Louis M. Margotta Funeral Home, 511 church St. Jessup. For directions or online condolences, visit www.margottafuneralhomes.com
