Obituary of Edward F. Commodario

Edward "Eddie" Commodario, 71, of Peckville, formerly of Jessup, passed away peacefully at home Friday, surrounded by his family. His wife of six years is the former April Smith. Born in Carbondale, he was the son of the late Jeremia and Raymonde Bavais Commodario. A graduate of Jessup High School, he served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He worked for several years at the Tobyhanna Army Depot as well as Johnson's Towing. He was of the Catholic faith and a former member of St. Mary's Assumption Church, Jessup. He also belonged to the Knights of Columbus Jessup Council # 10729, the Jessup American Legion and the Jessup VFW, Jessup Hose Co. # 2, Jessup Golf League, Jessup Hose Co. Golf League and the Margotta Golf League. Everyone who knew Ed would say that he was “special”. So, a special tribute is in order. Ed loved life. He lived every day as if it were his last with no limitations. Ed also loved to help people. He enjoyed assisting his local Hose Co. for over 40 years where he held the positions of chief engineer, assistant chief engineer and vice president. He organized the Firemen’s Parade, drove Santa through town every year with the fire truck and ran the ticket booth at the annual carnival. Whatever was going on, Ed was there. Many people often saw Ed at the indoor flea market weekly where they knew him as “Crazy Eddie,” one of many nicknames he held. He was also a regular at the HonkyTonk where he would enjoy dinner with all his friends and the live band would always sing him his favorite song. Ed also enjoyed spending time outdoors. He coached his daughter's softball team for the JYSA, and later in life, enjoyed watching his granddaughter play the same sport. He played in several golf leagues where he was known for a great swing but not always keeping the best score. And more recently, you could find him fishing at his favorite lake with his wife and often his grandchildren. Also surviving are a daughter, Jaime Lynn Gibbs and husband Shaun, Jessup, two granddaughters, Lucy and Ellie Gibbs, a son Joshua Knight, Peckville, and a grandson Kyler Mozeleski. Also a sister, Joanne Fanning and husband Richard, Hummelstown, a brother, Jerry, Belgium and nephews Richie and Jeramie. The funeral will be private at the convenience of the family.
