Obituary of Carmen Vinciguerra

Carmen Vinciguerra, 79 of Jessup, passed away Wednesday unexpectedly at the home of his daughter in Jessup. His wife of 53 years is the former Patricia Smargiassi. Born in Scranton he was the son of the late Leonard and Mary Castaldi Vinciguerra. He was a graduate of West Scranton High School. He resided in Jessup for most of his married life, after moving from West Side. He was in the US Army National Guard. He was a marksman with US Rifle Cal .30 and US Pistol Cal .45 and was awarded the General Thomas J Stewart Medal and the Pennsylvania Service Ribbon. He was a very active member and usher of the former St. Mary's Assumption Church, Jessup and a present member and usher of Holy Cross Parish in Olyphant. He was also a member of the Jessup VFW Post 5544 and the Jessup Lions Club and the American Bowling Conference. Also surviving; three sons, Paul Washko, Jessup, Mark Washko and wife Susan Montdale, and David Washko and wife Mary Alice, Dunmore, two daughters, Michele (Shelly) Daley and husband William, Jessup and Deanna Gioupis and husband Christopher, Peckville, brothers, James Vinciguerra and wife Connie, Joseph and Leonard Vinciguerra all of Scranton, grandchildren, Colleen, Ryan, Christopher , Brian, and Jenna Washko, Alicia Waters, Melina and Giannino Carmen Gioupis. He was preceded in death by a brother, Stephen and a sister in law Marie Vinciguerra. Carmen was the most loving and proud husband, father, and poppy who loved spending time with his family. He loved his neighbors and friends especially Richard and Janice Pitoniak and Cookie Parette. He was a master mechanic who could fix anything related to bowling and loved his job and work family at Chacko’s Family Bowling Center Wilkes Barre. He was always the first to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Wherever there is a bowling alley in Lackawanna and Luzerne counties, you could find Carmen servicing machines or sharing a kind word and smile with a patron. He traveled for 25 years to numerous bowling tournaments where he received many awards, including numerous perfect games of 300. The family would like to thank Dr. Samir Pancholy and staff, Dr. Steven Sluck D.O. And staff and the Regional Hospital Heart Cath Lab staff for their special care. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. The funeral will be held Monday from the Louis M. Margotta Funeral Home, 511 Church St., Jessup, with mass at 10 AM at Holy Cross Parish, St. Patrick's Church, Olyphant. Interment St. Francis Cemetery, Eynon. Anyone attending the funeral will follow all CDC guidelines. Masks and social distancing will be strictly adhered to.
