Obituary of Sharon A. Grasso Gallo
Sharon A. Grasso Gallo, 74, of Peckville, passed away on Wednesday surrounded by her children at Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore after a nearly three-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Sharon was the daughter of the late William and Rose Olex Zlotnicki, Jessup, and attended St. Michael’s Grade School and graduated from Jessup High School in 1963. She was a summa cum laude graduate of the University of Scranton, earning her bachelor’s (1983) and master’s (1985) degrees while working at the International Correspondence School as the Chief Instructor of the High School Department. After graduation, she joined the University of Scranton as Assistant Dean, Director of Academic Advising and member of the English faculty, where she worked until retirement. She married Robert Andrew Grasso in 1968 and they were blessed with their two children, Robert and Shara. Sharon was predeceased by her husband Robert, who died unexpectedly in 1996. In 2002, Sharon met Gerald Gallo, a recent widower, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish and both entered into a second marriage. God had given them a second chance and they enjoyed their grandchildren, traveling the world, and each other’s company until Gerald’s passing in 2017. Sharon had a strong faith which carried her through life’s challenges. She was a choir member at Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, a Eucharistic minister to the homebound and to local nursing homes for forty years, and a religious education teacher for twenty years. Sharon’s life was centered around her family and her church, along with her friends for many years. She is survived by her two children, with her late husband Robert Andrew; Robert Grasso, Lafayette Hill, PA and his wife Jill whom Sharon loved as a daughter, and their children Robby, Christopher, and Elizabeth; Shara Grasso Bauman, Dickson City, and her wonderful husband Kurt, and their children Keira and Cole, who cared lovingly and patiently for her during her illness; her sister, Joan Esgro, Archbald, and her husband Thomas. She is also survived by the late Gerald Gallo’s children: Gerry Gallo, Lansdale, PA, and his wife Nicole, and their children Talia, Gianna and Madelana, and Kimberly Gallo Smargiassi, Olyphant, and her husband Robert; and several nieces and nephews. The Funeral will be on Saturday with mass of Christian burial at 10 am at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Peckville. Interment will follow at St. Cyril’s Cemetery, Peckville.
