Obituary of Louis T. Umile

Louis T. Umile, 81, of Jessup, passed away Saturday at Regional Hospital of Scranton after an illness. Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Thomas and Elena (Anna) Gatti Umile. He was a graduate of Central High School and earned bachelor’s and Master of Business Administration degrees in accounting from the University of Scranton. Louis was employed as an auditor for the Civil Aeronautics Board, worked for the Scranton Redevelopment Authority, and retired from a position as an administrative aide to Representative Fred Belardi. For many years, Louis was the owner and operator of Rare Coins and Baseball Cards in Jessup. Additionally, he was a member of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard, the former Dante Literary Society, the Twentieth Ward Social Club, and various coin clubs throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania. He resided in Jessup since 1955 and was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Peckville. Louis enjoyed studying United States history and Native American culture. He was a fan of the New York Yankees, and he loved to golf and spend time in nature. He is survived by a brother, Thomas A. Umile and wife, Liz, Olyphant; a nephew, Thomas P. Umile and husband, David Grizzanti, Philadelphia; an aunt, Rose Blasi, Peckville; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Marie King. The family would like to thank the staff at Allied Skilled Nursing for the care and comfort they provided. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the funeral will be private at the convenience of the family.
