Obituary of Donald K. Healey Sr.

Donald Healey, 70, Olyphant, passed peacefully, Tuesday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, after an extended illness. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, the former Linda Lanuti Healey. Born in Olyphant, he was the son of the late Patrick J. and Rita Sheridan Healey and was a graduate of St. Patrick’s High School, Olyphant and Lackawanna College. He was a veteran of the United States Army, proudly serving his country. He was a combat infantry soldier in the Vietnam War. He earned a Bronze Star, 4 Air Medals, the Army Commendation Medal, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, the National Defense Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with two service stars for active participation in three designated campaigns, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. Before retirement, for most of his career, he was self- employed as a mechanic and was also employed by Medico Industries and the Tobyhanna Army Depot. He was a lifelong member of Holy Cross Parish, Olyphant. He was also a member of the VFW Post 7963, Eynon Pa and the American Legion Post 328, Eynon, Pa. He enjoyed family vacations, especially those to Atlantic City, playing all of his grandchildren’s birthdays on the PA Lottery Pick 3, and his daily dose of scratch off lottery tickets, and was always in for a family get together, regardless of the occasion. His most treasured activity was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Whether it was baseball and soccer games, dance, gymnastics, or cheer, Grandpa Healey was there. Also surviving are three children, son Donald Jr. and wife Crissy, Olyphant, son David and wife Christy, Eynon, and daughter Brenda Anne Borrelli and husband Kevin, Dickson City. Six grandchildren, Donald III, Ashlyn, Alli, and Madison Joan Healey, and Jacob and Cassidy Rose Borrelli. A brother Joseph, and wife Jane, Olyphant. Brother-in-law, Richard Pontosky, Hollisterville. Sisters-in-law, Joann Healey, Eynon, and Eleanor Healey, Peckville. Many nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Elaine Pontosky, and four brothers, Patrick, Jack, Jerry, and Robert Healey. Due to COVID-19, a private viewing will be held. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at 10 am at St. Patrick’s Church of Holy Cross Parish 200 Delaware Ave. Olyphant. Interment will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Blakely.
