Obituary of George M. Chekan
George M. Chekan, 88 of Jessup, died Sunday at home after a brief illness. His wife is the former Wanda Wallinger . The couple would have celebrated 56 years of marriage in May
Born in Jessup he was the son of the late John and Elizabeth Pegula Chekan. He was a graduate of Jessup High School. He was wounded while serving in the US Army in Korea.
He was employed in the maintenance staff of the Courthouse in Scranton and was the owner and operator of Chekan's Bar in Jessup.He was a member of Holy Ghost Byzantine Catholic Church in Jessup and was very active during the
churche's fund raisers. His barbequed chicken was famous throughout the area. He was a member of the Jessup VFW and American Legion and was an honorary member of the Jessup Hose Co. # 2.
He was a kind and caring husband who was a friend to everyone. He always put others needs before his own. He will be dearly missed by everyone especially his best canine friend Bo.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son George Chekan, Jr, 4 sisters, Millie Obezcled, Mary Haluska, Joanna Galaydick, and Betty Cimino and 2 brothers, John and Joseph Chekan.
The funeral will be Friday at 9:30 from the Louis M. Margotta Funeral Home, 511 Church St. Jessup, with Divine Liturgy at 10 am at Holy Ghost Byzantine Catholic Church, Jessup. Interment, parish cemetery. Friends may call Thursday
