Obituary of Joseph Kozar
Joseph Kozar, 91, of Jessup died on January 15th. His wife Eleanor Kozar passed away in April of 2012.
Born in Jessup he was the son of the late Wasil and Julia Kozar.
Joe was employed at Mayflower Cabinets, Grove Silk Mill and Specialty Records prior to retirement.
He was a longtime and devoted member of Queen of Angels Parish, Jessup.
Surviving are grandsons, Steven Portonova and wife Christina, Pittston Township; Joseph Portonova and wife Maria, Roaring Brook Twp.; great grandsons, Logan and Ryker; a daughter Joanne Portonova and husband Peter, Olyphant;, sisters in law, Henrietta Wiltshire and husband Robert and Romayne Borawski, both of Dickson City, a brother in law Michael Kula, Dickson City, a niece Theresa Wehner and grand niece Jade Wehner, both of Dickson City, a dear friend Nazzereno Machelli, Eynon.
Joe was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandpa, brother, uncle and friend who was dedicated to his home and family. Joe was committed to his love of gardening. He was always more than generous sharing his fruits and veggies with family and friends. Joe was an avid lover of his dogs, especially his companion Zoe, who brought him so much comfort and joy, even until the end. If he wasn’t in the garden, you could find Joe enjoying his love for westerns. He spent the last 60 years riding horses with his close friend Naz. Joe was our real life cowboy who found he could truly be himself up there in the saddle.
Joe had such an impact on everyone who had the opportunity to be in his presence. His smile was contagious and his laugh was always genuine.
His family would like to thank his Doctor, Kevin Williams, M.D. and the staff at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore, especially, Nicole, Mary Ann, Kendra, Debbie, Mary and anyone else we may have missed.
Special thank you to Joe’s caregivers, Steven & Christina, Bob & Henrietta, who Joe always called “Henchi”, Naz, and Zoe.
Joe will be missed but his spirit will live on in all that knew him, especially those present in his last years.
