Obituary of Peter Petrulak

Peter Petrulak, 91, passed peacefully into the gates of Heaven on Wednesday July 11.

Born in Jessup, son of the late Nicholas and Sophie Smoleniak Petrulak. Peter attended Jessup schools and was one within the Greatest Generation. As a lifelong Jessup resident, he was a member of Holy Ghost Byzantine Catholic Church. Peter worked in the coal breaker of Jessup as a teen, helped build The Dyberry Dam, and held many other miscellaneous jobs. His pride and joy was working and retiring from The Valley View School District. A diehard Cougar fan, Peter wouldn’t miss a football game standing on the sidelines.

Peter enjoyed spending time on his swings while tending to the garden. He was known around town for giving his crop away to many people. Known for the biggest tomatoes and garlic, Pete took much pride in his garden. Also, he was a long time member of the Scranton Pigeon club. He raced his homing pigeons for over 60 years. An avid hunter and fisherman, many family and friends can write books of the adventures with Pete. ”Uncle Pete” took pride in hunting and fishing with three generations of many nephews. He lived for his family and loved every one of his nieces and nephews. Peter’s quirky jokes, disposable cameras, smart remarks, stories, smiles, and love will be truly missed by all.

He survived by his caregivers, nephew Craig and wife Sabrina Shander. Also surviving are his four generations nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his six brothers; John, Joseph, Nicholas, Paul, Andy and Michael; and sisters; Anna Krehel and Mary Wittenbreder.

The Funeral will be on Monday with Divine Liturgy at 10:30am at Holy Ghost Byzantine Catholic Church, Jessup. Interment will follow at Holy Ghost Cemetery, Jessup.

Family and friends may call Sunday from 4 to 7pm at the Louis M. Margotta Funeral Home, 511 Church St., Jessup.
