Irene F. Russin, 92, of Clarks Summit, formerly of Dunmore, passed away Aug. 27 at Geisinger Mountain View Care Center. Her husband, Leo Russin, preceded her in death in October of 2015. The couple was married for 71 years.
Born in Olyphant, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Theresa Mecke Pirhalla. She was a graduate of Olyphant High School.
Irene was a homemaker, a member of St. Mary’s of Mt. Carmel Church, Dunmore. She was also a member of the “No Name Bridge Club” and enjoyed the yearly trips they took to New York City on the train for dinner and a Broadway show. The beach was a place she loved, and spending time with her family and friends.
The family would like to thank the staff from Clarks Summit Senior Living Center for giving Irene two wonderful years of friendship and care. We would also like to thank the staff of Geisinger Mountain View Care Center for the tender thoughtfulness shown to her over the last weeks. We are grateful for the kindness given to her while in her care.
She is survived by her daughters, Diane Puhalla and husband, Peter, Dickson City; and Sharon Homick, Scott Twp.; a son, Kevin and wife, Ann Marie, Moscow; grandchildren, Peter Puhalla Jr. and wife, Karen, Peckville; Denise Boyle and husband, Dave, Peckville; Jennifer Williams and husband, Ron, Canadensis; Nicholas Homick III and wife, Courtney, Peckville; Heather Flanagan and husband, Mark, Macungie; Steven Russin and wife, Christina, Stroudsburg; Philip Russin and companion, Alley Gearhart, Moscow; great-grandchildren, Natalie and Brayden Homick; Kahlil, Amir and Eli Williams; Colton Russin, Taylor Boyle, Kayle Galchefski; and great-great-granddaughter, Vienna Galchefski; a sister, Carol Tunis and husband, Frank, Scott Twp.; a sister-in-law, Eleanor Pirhalla, Delaware; along with several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her son-in-law, Nicholas Homick Jr; a sister, Elizabeth Pagnotti; brothers, Joseph and Robert Pirhalla; sister-in-law, Marie Safko; brother-in-law, Andrew Safko; and nephews, Andy and Bobby Safko.
The funeral will be on Friday with Mass at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s of Mt. Carmel Church, Chestnut St., Dunmore. Interment will follow at Dunmore Cemetery, Dunmore.
