Obituary of Francesco DiMatteo

Francesco “Frank” DiMatteo, 83, of Peckville, died on Monday evening at Geisinger Community Medical Center. His wife was the former Rosalina Caracciolo, who passed away in August of 2010.

Born in Alvignano, Italy, he was the son of the late Giuseppe and Nicolina Perreta DiMatteo. Frank was a longtime member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Peckville and was employed as a laborer within the Local 130 Union, for 39 years.

He was a kind and loving husband, father, grand and great-grandfather, brother and friend, who enjoyed winemaking, his garden, playing bocce, especially in the Pittston Old Timer’s Bocce League, and, entertaining friends and family. He was a devout Catholic and mostly loved spending time with his family above all else.

Surviving are a daughter; Nicolina Luby and husband Joseph Brian, Endicott, NY; a son Antonio DiMatteo and companion Cheri Emily, Archbald; a sister Nancy DiMatteo, Peckville; two brothers, Dominick DiMatteo, Schenectady, NY, Nick DiMatteo and wife Anna, Saratoga Springs, NY; five grandchildren, Rosalie Sullivan and husband Kevin, Kimberly Duffy and husband Patrick, Marie Lewis and husband Kenneth, John Luby, and Michael DiMatteo; three great grandchildren Abby, Ryan, and Annabella; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by a sister in law, Annunziata DiMatteo. 

The funeral will be on Monday with mass of Christian burial at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Peckville. Entombment will follow at Glenwood Mausoleum, Clarks Summit, PA. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 4-7pm at the James M. Margotta Funeral Home, 1019 Main St., Peckville. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The American Diabetes Association, 63 N.
