Obituary of Teresa Margotta
Teresa A. Margotta, 60, of Jessup, died Thursday morning at Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre Hospital after a long and courageous battle with ALS.
She is survived by her husband, Louis M. Margotta. The couple was married for 39 years.
Born in Peckville, she was the daughter of Attilio and Alice Generotti Vergari, Peckville. Teresa was a graduate of Valley View High School, class of 1975, Sacred Heart Hospital School of Nursing, and DeSales University where she earned her R.N. degree. She later acquired her funeral director’s license from Simmons School of Mortuary Science. She was a member of St. Mary’s Assumption Church, Queen of Angel’s Parish, Jessup.
The family would like to express their gratitude to her caregivers, Tammy Esgro, Helen Davidson, Megan Drag, Gina Doyle, Marlene Pacini, Jeanne Kearney, Lisa Gibbons, Marcia Rudat, and Bernie Povanda. Additional thanks to the staff at Celtic Hospice, especially Lori Lynn O’Boyle and Clover Loomis, Dr. Linda Thomas and Kari Machelli, for their kind and compassionate care. Special thanks to her devoted friends, Kim, Robin, Karen and Ellie for their continuous love and support.
Teresa was a selfless woman who put her three children first, what she often said were her greatest accomplishments. Her legacy will live on within them forever. She had many friends, but her relationship with her husband defined the meaning of a best friend and true love. Her passion for her family, especially the love for her grandchildren gave her new meaning to life. Teresa’s strong will and her supportive family pushed her to fight a terrible disease. Throughout her life she overcame many obstacles. Her career as a nurse was cut short because of a hearing deficiency, but that loss was her family business’s gain as she became a valuable asset to the Margotta Tradition.
Also surviving are her children, Louis J. Margotta and wife Carla, Jessup, Jessica Forgione and husband Rocco, Peckville and James Margotta, Peckville; her grandchildren, Nina and Siena Margotta, Aria and Rocky Forgione; two brothers, Joseph Loftus-Vergari and wife Cindy, Mountaintop and David Vergari, Peckville, a godchild, Riley Gibbons; several nieces, nephews, aunts uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by a sister in law Rose Marie Margotta Gibbons and a nephew Brian Gibbons.
The funeral will be on Wednesday with mass at 9:30am at St. Michael’s Church, Jessup. Entombment will follow at St. Mary’s Assumption Cemetery, Montdale. Friends may call on Tuesday from 2 to 8pm at the Louis M. Margotta Funeral Home, 511 Church St. Jessup. To share photos, order flowers, or online condolences, please visit www.margottafuneralhomes.com
