Obituary of Nicholas Homick

Nicholas Homick Jr., 70, of Scott Township, died Tuesday afternoon among family and close friends after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer at Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore.

His wife of 42 years is the former Sharon Russin.

Born in Peckville, he was the son of the late Nicholas “Oscar” and Rose Russen Homick.

He was a graduate of Blakely High School and a proud Blakely Bear. Nick earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Temple University and a Master’s Degree from the University of Scranton. He was an elementary school teacher at Bancroft Elementary School in Scranton for over 30 years.

He was a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He enjoyed helping others with their home improvement projects. Nick was the “the guy” everyone called (when his cell phone worked). He was quick with a joke and always had a story to share. He never hurried and never worried. He took great pleasure in all life had to offer. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.

Also surviving are a son Nicholas Homick and wife Courtney, Peckville, a daughter Heather Flanagan and husband Mark, Macungie; two grandchildren, Natalie and Brayden Homick; a brother David Homick, Scranton; a sister-in-law, Diane Puhalla and husband Peter, Dickson City, a brother-in-law, Kevin Russin and wife Ann Marie, Moscow; and a mother-in-law, Irene Russin, Clarks Summit, several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father-in-law Leo Russin.

The funeral will be on Monday with mass at 9:30am at St. John Vianney Church, Montdale. Interment will follow at Valley View Memorial Park, Scott Township. Friends may call on Sunday from 3 – 6pm at the James M. Margotta Funeral Home, 1019 Main St. Peckville.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff of the Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their attention and comforting care.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 100 Williams St. Dunmore, PA 18512. For directions or online condolences visit the funeral home website.
