Peter Mondati 90, of Peckville, died Sunday, December 17, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer.
His wife of 62 years is the former Evelyn Mercanti.
Born in Jessup, he was the son of the late Santé and Madeline Toni Mondati. He was a graduate of Blakely High School where he played football and the University of Scranton, where he was the starting fullback for four years. He went from collegiate ball to the pros with the Chicago Bears and the Pittsburg Steelers.
He was a US Army veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific. He retired from Tobyhanna Army Depot. He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Peckville where he was an usher.
Also surviving are a son, Robert Mondati, and a daughter, Linda Natushko and husband Edward, all of Peckville, a granddaughter, Leah Natushko, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Guido KIA during World War II and a sister, Rena Romitelli.
The funeral will be Wednesday from the James M. Margotta Funeral Home, 1019 Main St. Peckville with mass at 9:30am at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Interment St. John's Cemetery, Jessup. Friends may call Tuesday from 6 to 8 PM. For online condolences go to funeral home website.
