John Vanko, 67 of Jessup died Sunday evening at home in the care of his companion of 23 years, Angela Veltri.
Born and raised in Jessup, he was the son of the late John and Della Zebbi Vanko. He graduated from Jessup High School in 1967 and hitch-hiked across the lower 48 states playing music. John was a loving father, master carpenter, poetic songwriter and genuine bluesman. He was an aggregator of what he called “useless and pointless knowledge” and collector of fine hats, guitars and boots. He created far more smiles than tears. This Jessup legend will be missed and not forgotten.
Surviving him are Jesse Vanko, Jacob Vanko and somehow Keith Richards.
He was preceded in death by his sister Donna Vanko and his best friend, Dan Harabin.
There will be a viewing Thursday from 5-8 pm at the Louis M. Margotta Funeral Home, 511 Church St. Jessup. Musical services to be performed at 7:30 pm. For online condolences or to share pictures, visit www.margottafuneralhomes.com
