Charles "Chuck" Colarusso, 66, of Jessup, died unexpectedly Sunday evening at Geisinger CMC after a long battle with end-stage renal disease.
Born in Taylor, raised in Old Forge, he was the son of the late Joseph and Ann Marie Delvecchio Colarusso. He was a graduate of Old Forge High School and the University of Scranton where he received a B. S. in Sociology.
His wife of 43 years is the former Mary Ann Andrejko. He and his wife were the owners of Cafe Colarusso in Jessup and were also partners in Colarusso's Coal Fire Pizza in Dickson City. He resided in Jessup the past 41 years and was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Peckville and a former member of St. Mary's Assumption Church, Jessup. He was a board member and longtime member of Elkview Country Club, a Jessup Borough Councilman, a member of The Chapel of the Four Chaplains, and the Knights of Columbus, Council 10729.
Prior to his illness, Chuck was a presence. His passion for his business was only surpassed by his love for his family...and maybe golf. A diamond in the rough, he had a razor tongue with a kind heart. Active in both local and county politics, he was dedicated to the improvement of his community and to helping others. This commitment to others existed even in death as the man who was waiting for a kidney, in turn donated his organs to others in need.
Also surviving are a daughter, Teresa Colarusso Rybnick and husband Robert, Jessup; two sons, Michael and wife Stefanie, Jermyn and Charles, Mayfield; three brothers, David and wife Grace, Joseph and wife Sharon, all Moosic, Kevin and wife Lynn, Old Forge; a sister, Kim Zambetti and husband Mark, also Old Forge, and former sister-in-law, Debbie Colarusso; his mother and father-in-law, Charles and Sophia Andrejko, Blakely; grandchildren, Francesca and Jude Colarusso, and Cooper Rybnick.
The family would to thank the PD nursing staff at DaVita Dialysis (especially, Barb, Fran and Mike), Dr. Thomas Minora, Dr. Roger Getz, Dr. Uzzal Roy, and Dr. Patrick Connor for their commitment to making him well. They would also like to thank the EMTs and other emergency responders for their quick responses and their compassion.
The funeral will be Thursday with mass at 10:30AM at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Peckville. Entombment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Montdale. Friends may call from9:00AM to time of service, at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting contributions to GBS/CIDP Foundation International, 375 E. Elm Street, Suite 101, Conshohocken, PA 19428 or to the American Kidney Fund, http://www.kidneyfund.org/.
